The TEN Tinder Commandments

By Frederick Tuffour @freddatecrew · On July 16, 2014

Ladies and gentlemen, it’s time to touch on the Ten Commandments of Tinder. Parsed as top 5 official and unofficial, these are the cardinal rules to which every great Tinderer must abide by:

1.     Honour thyself, by putting your best pic up.

Translation: Although we might not all be Jeremy Meeks or Idris Elba, you’ve got to put your best face or feature forward. Avoid the failing group pictures, which automatically earn you a left swipe into oblivion. An unobstructed view of your face will do, along with an intriguing and funny bio. In this social media age, women’s attention spans have been drastically reduced to about 3 seconds. If your pic doesn’t catch her eye within a 3 second window, you’re done for.

2.     Thou shalt initiate conversation after a match

Translation: Just like in real life, most women prefer being approached by interested men. If you matched with her, the onus is on you to initiate conversation.

3.     Thou shalt not fear rejection

Translation: Half the battle is won by matching with her, so why worry? Tinder has given both sexes unprecedented power to––at any time––block any matches that become a nuisance. Perhaps you appeared overly interested and downed any iota of attraction she had for you. Having said that, be bolder and smarter on Tinder, as it can only shape your dating skills.

4.     Thou art at the risk of being “catfished”

Translation: Perhaps in adhering to Commandment #1, she put up a prime pic of herself 5 years ago. Have no worries, as the newly added “moments” feature is a great way of viewing her current look. Aside from that, don’t be surprised if you’re catfished when you eventually meet.

5.     Thou shalt not take anything personally

Not every woman is on Tinder to hook up, so don’t take things personally if you’re “curved” or she doesn’t return your advances. Just because she matched with you doesn’t mean anything. It’s a numbers game on Tinder. For some women, it’s just an ego booster to have many matches and nothing more.

Tune in for more next week.
