What Is Soul Worthy Love?

We often hear of the desire to ‘find a soulmate’. The idea sounds beautiful but in reality, from my personal experience and with dealing with many of my clients, observing friends and watching the media, it actually is not: it leads to tempestuous infatuation, filled with emotions, with big highs and the resulting equal lows.

Often the ‘soulmate’ relationship starts with feeling like you have known this person forever, that this person ‘is perfect for you’ as you seem to have all the same tastes, interests; you can even finish each other’s sentence when required.

At least for the first three months of the relationship.

And then it starts to swing to the opposite side, into insecurities, fears, arguments, breakups and reconciliations… with great passionate make up sex.

These relationships are time consuming because even when you are not together, they occupy your consciousness and prevent you from attending to the other areas of your life that are important in making you feel whole and fulfilled. Eventually the partners end up feeling like ‘this person is not making me happy’ and feel they made ‘a mistake’, that this person was not their soulmate, because if they were, everything would be easy.

What I call ‘soul worthy love’, is the love you experience when your heart feels fulfilled: It is quiet, steady, warm and safe. It brings freedom.

Many people who have not experienced it fear it, feeling that it is not true love, that it would be boring because it is not intense.

Those who have it, would not change it for the big highs of infatuation and passion that can only lasts for a short while, which comes from not really knowing the person you are with yet and/or not understanding what true love is all about.

The true love stories are those built over time. The ones that face challenges together and conquer them, who teach how to be kind and to let go of the need to ‘win’. They come with wisdom and gratitude. They are beautiful. They are what we are deep down seeking.
