Work Out Tips For Traveling

By Eligible Magazine @eligiblezine · On February 26, 2014

By: Olga Lastovetska

Whether you are traveling for work or vacation, whether you are gone for a day or a month, don’t let it get in the way of your fitness progress and success. Here are some work out tips to help you stay on track!

1. Your place of stay
If your trip allows you to choose where to stay, choose wisely. Do your research ahead of time. If you’re staying at a hotel, try to find one that has a gym or is located near one. Also, call your hotel in advance and request a fridge and a microwave.

2. Food
What you eat and how much is absolutely essential. When traveling for a few days, you can prepare your meals ahead of time and store them in a fridge (provided it’s available) or even a cooler. However, if that is not the case, search the internet for local food stores, healthy food stores, and healthy restaurants.

3. Find a gym
Some hotels have gyms, others are located near a gym, and some – neither. If the place you are staying at does not have a gym, search for one in the area. Many gyms offer a free trial membership- few days or a week. If your trip is longer, seek out multiple gyms. If, for some reason, you really do not have access to any gyms, you will have to rely on working out either outside or anywhere you can find some space. If this is the case, make sure to prepare your workouts ahead of time and bring all the appropriate equipment. This could include a skipping rope, gym boss, resistance bands.

4. Pack smart and be prepared.
Attire: Comfy gym clothes. If traveling for a short period of time, and provided you have the suitcase space, bringing one workout outfit per day would save you some time so you don’t have to worry about laundry.

Food/snacks: protein powder, oats/oatmeal, protein bars, rice cakes, canned tuna, nuts, organic peanut butter, coconut butter as well as flavored mixes for water (i.e. Mio, crystal light, etc)

Other items to consider include a small measuring scale, a measuring cup, plastic forks and knives, blender bottle/shaker bottle.

All this being said, don’t forget to enjoy your trip. Treat yourself to a healthy snack or maybe a rest day!
