7 Allergy-Friendly Aphrodisiac-Like Foods

By Lisa Cantkier @LisaCantkier · On May 9, 2015

Science hasn’t exactly proven that any specific food can stimulate the human sex organs. However, the nutrition profile, combined with the look, feel, taste and scent of certain foods can stimulate desire in the body, producing an “aphrodisiac-like” effect. Who said eating allergy-friendly was boring? Here is a “lucky number 7” list of healthy foods free of the top food allergens that you can enjoy with your partner!

Of Course Avocados

Many find the shape of the avocado to be sensuous and feminine. The creamy and rich texture makes it enjoyable to the palate. The Aztecs originally gave this fruit its sexy reputation. High levels of vitamin E in avocado support energy and vigor. It also contains B6, which helps to stimulate male hormones.

Allergy-Friendly aphrodisiacGo Bananas!

Of course, the shape of the banana speaks for itself. Bananas contain bromelain, which is an enzyme that has been said to trigger testosterone production. Bananas also provide potassium and B vitamins, which elevate energy levels.

Red Hot Chili Peppers

Another phallic shape (albeit a much smaller one) coated in the color of love. Chili peppers stimulate the endorphins (chemicals in the brain that make us feel good). They also make you sweat and speed up the heart rate—all characteristics of love and romance.

Chocolate Lovers Unite

The decadent taste and texture of chocolate says romance! Dark chocolate, which contains higher amounts of cocoa and caffeine, can increase the level of dopamine in the brain, leading to feelings of pleasure. Dark chocolate also contains polyphenols, which are natural antioxidants that are beneficial to vascular function. Many argue that chocolate itself can provide feelings more euphoric than sex.

Allergy-Friendly aphrodisiacGet Sticky with Honey

Honey contains boron, which helps to regulate testosterone in men and aids the use of estrogen in women. It is known as a symbol of procreation. Of course, being sweet and sticky adds to its sex appeal.

I Heart Olives

The Greeks believed that olives and olive oil made men more virile. Black olives are known for increasing a woman’s sex drive. Olive oil is a good source of unsaturated fats, which are needed for healthy blood flow, a healthy heart and the production of hormones.

Be Sweet with Strawberries

Another lovingly red food, strawberries are high in vitamin C, which supports good blood flow. They are also high in antioxidants to support immune health. They are best enjoyed as finger foods, fed with affection.

Enjoy this decadent chocolate, which contains the “aphrodisiac-like” benefits of cocoa and honey above. Dip strawberries into it for the extra benefits of vitamin C.

Ingredients:

1 1/2 tablespoons organic butter (you can try other fats; coconut oil works, however, the taste will be coconut-y)
3-4 teaspoons raw honey
4-5 tablespoons cocoa powder (works with raw cacao, but turns out more bitter)
Pinch of sea salt (optional)
1 tablespoon of your favourite dried fruit, finely chopped and no sugar added (optional)

Directions:

1. Slowly melt butter on very low heat in non-stick pot.

2. Add in raw honey and stir to combine.

3. Stir in cocoa powder until all ingredients are well combined.

4. Add about 1 tablespoon of water and combine well until you have what looks like “frosting.”

5. Spread out on parchment paper, put into a mold, or put into small dish and freeze for 2-3 hours (or dip your strawberries in and enjoy right away).

Yield: One small chocolate bar.
