If you’re looking for a memorable time in New York this weekend, then look no further. We’ve got you covered. From burlesque to an homage to great TV, this list sure to make your date night one for the history books!
Tribeca TV Festival
It’s an homage to episodic TV, so move over films! A few things happening at this year’s event are Bryan Cranston looking back over 10 years of Breaking Bad; celebrating 20 years of Law and Order: SVU with a panel of the cast; and many other things to look forward to, not to mention all of the HBO zaniness. Movingly, the festival will also host a few final episodes of Anthony Bourdain’s Parts Unknown, with an appearance by W. Kamau Bell, who was a guest on the show. The fest runs through Sept 23, 2018. Tickets will set you back $20-$30 per event.
The NY Clown Festival 2018
Looking for a truly different date idea? Well, what could be more distinctive than a celebration of clowns? No really, this festival is an actual thing that exists in the world! Featuring talent from the UK, Canada, Poland and Italy, as well as distinguished locals, this is an event for all ages. The NY Clown Festival tends towards physical theatre, but there are intellectual shows too – too many to name.It will run through September 26th.
Company XIV: Ferdinand – Boylesque Bullfight
Having already made naughty burlesques out of many beloved childhood stories such as Snow White, Cinderella and the Nutcracker, this dance company is now taking on the story of Ferdinand. The titular Ferdinand is a sensitive young bovine, who prefers the fields over the matador’s ring. This should be a very interesting show! You and your take can check out this show through October 28th.
