Doctor's Orders, Dr. Sara Detox 0

Your Biological Clock Is Ticking!

By Sara Celik @drsaradetox · On April 25, 2012

What is with the negative news about women getting pregnant in their 30’s?  It is unbelievable how many beautiful, smart, successful women come to my clinic in a panic about getting pregnant later in life.  They place huge amounts of unnecessary stress upon themselves worrying about the quality of their eggs – not to mention that most of them are still single and searching for Mr. Right.

Ladies, there is no need to freak out any longer.  Take a deep breath.  Your body can work the way it did at 27 and you can have the family that you’ve always dreamed of without expensive fertility treatments.  However, if you are committed to your goal of having a baby one day, then you need to make some serious changes over the next year.  This includes reprogramming your thoughts, living healthier than you ever have, and taking a close look at the unavailable men you seem to attract over and over again.  I know it seems like a lot of work, but it’s worth it!

Step 1: Reprogramming your thoughts

You know this so well.  Your thoughts shape your life.  Do you have a clear vision?  Do your actions and decisions support your goals?  When was the last time you had an acupuncture treatment to relax your hyperactive mind?  If you are focused on your biological clock ticking, I can bet that you aren’t going to meet Mr. Right or get pregnant anytime soon.  It is a good idea to re-focus your energy on getting yourself healthy, whole and complete.  Get clear on your vision to have a beautiful family and start believing that it will happen when the time is right.  Your body gets pregnant when it feels healthy and ready for it, so start sending it loving thoughts.  Ladies, make sure that worrying about the possibility of not having a baby is the last thing you will be doing from now on.  Deal?

Step 2: Stop talking about living a healthy lifestyle and start living it

Eating out and skipping meals is not helping you.  It is time to start eating a balanced diet that consists of organic whole foods.  Consume loads of dark green leafy vegetables like kale and spinach, choose tasty complex carbs such as brown rice, quinoa and sweet potatoes, and include good sources of protein with every meal and snack.  When it comes to drinking, limit your alcohol intake to four alcoholic drinks per week (men can have seven), embrace juicing, and start sipping detoxifying white tea throughout the day.  At the very least, aim to hit the gym three times per week and give your body the sleep that it needs to rejuvenate and repair.

I also encourage all women over 30 to invest in saliva hormone testing with a Naturopathic Doctor – we test for estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, DHEA, and the stress hormone cortisol.  This test will help uncover hormonal imbalances and if anything is off, you are given the opportunity to address the problem sooner than later.  If you are in your 30’s and still taking birth control, remember synthetic hormones alter your natural menstrual cycle and can delay conception.  Perhaps it’s time to consider another form of birth control?

Additional advice to help you:  Keep your body fertile by taking a high quality pharmaceutical grade multivitamin, purified fish oil, folic acid, selenium and zinc.  The ultimate goal is to ensure your body is receiving all essential vitamins and nutrients, particularly the important ones which boost fertility.

Step 3: Stop dating unavailable men who don’t make good husbands or fathers

Unavailable doesn’t always mean married or taken.  Do the men you date share the same goals as you?  Are they really looking to settle down?  I’m sure you are aware that players don’t make good long-term boyfriends, let alone husbands or fathers.  So let me keep it simple for you, stop dating them!  Many women carry a fear that their biological clock is ticking, yet they continue to date unavailable men who will never marry them or be a good father to their children.  Ladies, you know it is time to break this dating pattern and make better choices, so just do it!  And, once you find Mr. Right, make sure he is taking good care of himself.  Poor sperm quality is a bigger issue now than ever before.  With both of you trying to get pregnant, he needs to be on board with you both emotionally and physically.  If he is drinking too much, not working out and eating fast food regularly, don’t tell me his sperm is swimming great.  He may need some extra vitamin C, zinc, selenium, ginseng, folic acid, and coenzyme Q10 to improve his sperm motility, sperm count, and sperm quality.

Lastly, detoxing at least twice per year is the ultimate prescription to keep you staying young and fertile.  Chemicals, stress, and toxins have a negative effect on fertility and can block you from getting pregnant.  Invest in your health and start a Spring detox today.  It is one of the best ways to let go of your depressing limiting beliefs, balance your hormones, and make space in your life for a loving relationship and healthy pregnancy.
