We all have that one drawer. Filled with a myriad of disappointing products, all of which are mediocre at best. Fortunately, all that money wasn’t spent in vain. I’ve stumbled across a few hidden gems along the way. Here are 5 amazing beauty products that are definitely worth the hype:
1. Real Techniques Makeup Brushes
Makeup brushes can be costly. If you’re on a budget or you don’t use makeup very often, brush sets are a great way to grab all the basics all at once. However, it’ll cost you well over $100 for a set from a quality brand, while bargain sets will end up costing you in the long-run in lack of quality.
Despite a solid reputation, I’d always been hesitant about giving Real Techniques a try. I mean, is a $20 synthetic brush set from Walmart really going to do much for me?
Surprisingly, yes. They’re phenomenal. I’ve had them for over a year, and they’re still going strong! These are the softest brushes I’ve ever owned, they don’t shed, and their ultra-sleek design makes them the perfect addition to any vanity.
2. Silicone Makeup Sponge
Beauty Blenders are great. But the latest craze? Silicone makeup sponges.
Are they worth the hype? Yes, but there are a few disadvantages. The hard surface will make it impossible to set your concealer, and it will take more effort to blend product into the crevices around your nose and in the eye area. Being accustomed to a damp sponge, a silicone applicator will feel unsettling at first. The hard surface will take some getting used to.
But the pros outweigh the cons. Your typical sponge that remains damp for the entirety of the day is the ideal breeding ground for nasty bacteria.
Undoubtedly, the non-porous surface of a silicone sponge will be more hygienic, which in turn could benefit the condition of your skin. And unlike a traditional sponge, the silicone applicator will not soak up any of your product!
There’s more good news. A silicone sponge typically runs less than $10 (1/3 the price of a Beauty Blender). If you hate cleaning your brushes as much as I do, you’ll be happy to hear a quick rinse will get your silicone sponge good as new.
3. Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer
This oil-free primer is one of the best primers out there. It will even out your complexion while creating the perfect canvas for the rest of your makeup application.
My favorite part? You’re not left with that greasy feeling you usually get from other primers. Its lightweight formula leaves your face with a smooth and silky finish and your makeup will stay put for the entire day.
Although it’s on the pricey side, it’s a great value. A tube will last you quite some time as very little product is necessary for a full application!
4. Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush
There is not enough hype surrounding this blush. Infused with Amazonian clay, its long-lasting formula benefits all skin types – with its hydrating properties and ability to minimize oil in and around pores. The formula is richly pigmented and super blendable.
