How To Get The Most Out Of Summertime

By Rosemarie De Cesare · On August 8, 2018

Sadly, August is here, and that means summer is coming to a close. Do you feel like you’ve missed out? Perhaps you’re lamenting that you didn’t complete your summer bucket list? Well, fear not! The season isn’t over yet. You can sill make the most of summertime if you follow these three tips…

Make A List!

You still have over a month left of summer, which is plenty of time time. Admittedly, if your seasonal bucket list was particularly ambitious, you might not have the opportunity to tackle all of it. But it’s not time to abandon hope. Instead, treat your summer dreams like a “To Do” list. Take a page out of your journal, and write down everything you wanted to do this season. Once it’s all written out on the page, you can determine which events/activities are your priorities. Are you dreaming of throwing a barbecue for your whole family? Or are you more keen to make time for the beach? Once you’ve thought your priorities through, get out that calendar and plan, plan, plan!

Speak Up!

Sometimes we don’t get to have the fun we’re dreaming of, because we don’t have anyone to share in those experiences. It can be scary to put yourself out there and ask someone to try something knew with you (Whether it comes from a friend or a lover, the prospect of rejection is a horrifying thing). Sure, it may turn out no one you’re close to wants to go skydiving or take an eight-day canoe trip through Algonquin Park, but you’ll never know until you ask. The time has come to speak up about your summer dreams! Take a risk and suggest new things to your family, friends, or romantic interests (or even potential romantic interests)! Even if you fear your loved ones won’t like your suggestions, there’s no hurt in at least asking. You may be pleasantly surprised…

Be Spontaneous!

Some people love planning, and that’s totally okay. Fastidiously planning an activity or a trip down to the minutest detail can be a winning strategy. With a detailed itinerary, you’ll have a better idea about what to expect. And when you’re working around multiple people’s schedules to get something down, careful consideration can be indispensable. However, there is a downside to planning, because sometimes it makes it harder to get up and do things. If you and your crew spend hours agonizing over what time to leave, or which podcasts to listen to on your road trip, you’ll never leave the garage. There’s a good chance your grandmother once warned you, “Too many cooks spoil the broth.” And that old adage applies not just to soup, but to a whole host of things, including summer fun. For all you lovable control freaks, the idea of partaking in a spontaneous activity can be intimidating, but it can also be fun! Make the most of the season by doing something spontaneous and unplanned! Whether alone or with your squad, reserve at least one day for a spontaneous adventure! Whether you decide to try a random restaurant, or taking an impromptu trip somewhere you’ve never gone, it’ll be an experience! And experiences are what summer is all about…
